The following are the characteristics of a phreatic line:-
In this article, I discussed the properties of the pheratic line
- It is the topmost line that separates the saturated and unsaturated soil mass within the body of the dam.
- It follows the path of the base parabola.
- beneath the phreatic line the pressure is hydrostatic and above it pressure is atmospheric.
- At All the phreatic line pressure is atmospheric which means the pressure head at a point on the phreatic line is zero. hence the total head at any point on the phreatic line is equal to the datum head.
- It can be used to calculate the seepage discharge.
