Advantages of the Deep dynamic compactions.
Deep dynamic compaction can improve large area of geomaterials in relatively short time at low cost.
Very effective to densify loose and partially saturated fill with less than 15% fines.
This method often can detect weak or loose areas during operation so that they can be treated properly (eg. over excavation and replacement)
Can change a heterogeneous geomaterial to a more uniform, denser and stronger material .
Equipment is readily available with many contractors.
Disadvantages of Deep dynamic compactions.
Generally this method is very less to not effective to improve saturated clayey soil.
Special measures should be taken to make this method
reasonably effective (dewatering, long waiting period)
The Impact may induce noise, vibration and lateral movement which
may cause problems to nearby buildings, substructure and
utility lines.
Requires instrumentation to monitor vibration, noise level and
ground movement (piezometer required to monitor pore water
pressure generation in clayey soils)
Flying debris may cause danger to site workers.
