What are the advantages and disadvantages of the shallow compaction ?

Advantages of the shallow compactions.

 Construction equipment  required for shallow compactions are readily available.

 This method is Well established with a long history and extensive knowledge in industry.

 Disadvantages of the Shallow compactions.

 With the help of shallow compaction only limited Depth of improvement can be done i.e, approx 1m.

 This method is mainly used for fill and not suitable  for in-situ natural geomaterials.

This method give best results/efficiency if moisture content of geomaterial  is close to OMC (optimum moisture content )

 It is very challenging  task to achieve uniform compaction if area is large.
