Which standard sand is used while performing sand replacement test ?

The standard sand used to perform the sand replacement method is Standard OTTAWA sand.

The Ottawa sand has following properties

1. Its particle have almost the same shape.

2. It has maximum and minimum ratio .80 and .5 respectively.

3. It has maximum and minimum porosity 44% and 33 % respectively.

4.It has maximum dry unit weight and minimum dry unit weight 17.3 and 14.5KN/m3 respectively.

This sand is also used in pycnometer test to find water content and Specific gravity.
