WHAT ARE THE FACTORS AFFECTING SHEAR MODULUS, ELASTIC MODULUS AND ELASTIC CONSTANTS

FACTORS AFFECTING SHEAR MODULUS, ELASTIC MODULUS AN ELASTIC CONSTANTS

Hardin and Black (1968) have given the following factors which influence the shear modulus, elastic modulus, and elastic constants :

(i) Type of soil including grain characteristics, grain shape, grain size, grading, and mineralogy;

(ii) Void ratio

(iii) Initial average effective confining pressure;

(iv) Degree of saturation

(v) Frequency of vibration and number of cycles of load

(vi) Ambient stress history and vibration history

(vii) Magnitude of dynamic stress

(viii) Time effects
