Flow of Hot Gases | In an Updraft Kiln, the flow of hot gases during firing is upward. Firing Conditions | In an Updraft Kiln, the firing conditions vary from top to bottom. The upper portion of the kiln tends to have higher temperatures, while the lower portion may have lower temperatures. The heat and gases rise through the kiln, providing different firing conditions for the clay products at various levels. | In a Downdraft Kiln, the firing conditions are more consistent throughout the kiln.
